Cool Off with a Tasty and Nourishing Smoothie Recipe, Courtesy of My College Crate
Choose healthy food options this summer to nourish your body as you study for summer classes, enjoy time off from school, and rest and rejuvenate from a stressful year. Try one of these recipes for a fresh, tasty snack.
Before you plan your smoothie-making session, you’ll need a blender that can smoothly crush ice or frozen fruit – hence the name “smoothie.” Once you have the equipment, you’ll be all ready to go!
The Smoothie Ratio
For basic smoothies, plan to use 1 cup of liquid per 2 cups of frozen fruit. Frozen fruit gives your smoothies a strong flavor. Adjust this ratio to fit your preferences. The liquid in your smoothie could be dairy, a dairy alternative, or fruit juice. The frozen fruits are available at your grocery store in the freezer aisle. You may find that frozen fruit is more affordable than fresh, as well as less perishable. Or, you can buy fresh fruit, and chop and freeze them yourself. You can add in a topping as well, like a spoonful of peanut butter, granola, nuts, chia seeds, or fresh fruit. You might want to mix in protein powder or Greek yogurt to make your smoothie more filling. Try our recipes for inspiration, or create your own using the smoothie ratio!
